Whether you want to impress your bosses or peers at work, become a hit with the ladies or simply exude class wherever you go, it’s vital to wear the right clothes. Of course, you might not want to dress formally all the time, but when formal or semi-formal dress is required, for instance at work or for dinner at a top restaurant, you want to do it right.
The suit makes the man
A high-quality, well-fitting suit is the first step. Not all of us can afford to have a wardrobe full of tailored suits, but even just one or two will make the difference. A suit that’s made for you will make you look impeccably dressed. If you can’t afford to get your suits custom made, a good alternative is to buy your suits off the rack and then have a tailor adjust it slightly so it fits like a glove.
Getting shirty
You might not think that anyone would notice, but it is important to have quality shirts rather than just grabbing the cheapest ones you can get your hands on. What’s more, a good pure cotton shirt will be so much more comfortable than wearing synthetics. If you want to be bold, choose colored shirts to go with your suits, rather than classic white. Pastel pinks, purples and blues look especially good.
A quality timepiece
Having a beautiful, classic watch will really make you look serious about the way you dress. If you’re on a budget, you can pick up second hand Rolex watches for a steal. There are many to choose from and since a top notch timepiece could last you a lifetime, it’s not something to scrimp on.
Shine your shoes
Keeping your shoes clean and shiny shows attention to detail. Before you go out each day, give them a quick polish to keep them looking their best. Alternatively, you could get them professionally shined.
Upgrade your accessories
When referring to accessories, we’re not talking about gold chains or baseball caps – we’re referring to those parts of your outfit that aren’t clothes. You’re going to look much more respectable if you have a quality wallet or billfold and a few nice belts.
All tied up
Going for the right tie is another important factor in looking your best. Skinny ties are really in vogue right now, so they’re great if you can pull them off. However, they don’t work for everyone, especially those with a larger frame. If you’re wearing a solid coloured shirt, plaid or pastel ties can look great. Avoid a plain black tie if you’re wearing a dark suit and a white shirt, as it can look a little bit funereal.
Pay attention to the way that you dress and you will find that you command more respect. Of course, dressing to impress does take a little bit of work, but it will pay off in the end.
